The History and Evolution of X-treme Fighting
Over
20 years before the "Ultimate Fighting Craze" of the 90's, Dale
"Apollo" Cook set out to find the most effective fighting techniques,
for the ring and self-defense. Fighting around the world Apollo
acquired techniques he found useful for fighting and disregarded the
ineffectual. This keen interest in effective fighting, in a time when
promoters were only interested in Boxing and very limited rules "Full
Contact" Karate, Apollo had had little choice but to promote his own
event's and invite practitioners of several arts to compete.
Pioneering rule changes to open up American prize fighting, enabling
other arts likes Muay Thai and Jeet Kun Do to showcase their techniques
in the ring. This was the birth of X-treme Fighting nearly 30 years
ago.
It was Apollo's forward thinking, as a martial artist and a promoter,
that eventually led to his initial invitations to participate in the
first 2 Japan Vale Tudo's and the fist Pride Fighting Championships.
As the evolution of modern martial arts progressed to include
groundfighting, so did X-treme Fighting. Today X-treme Fighting is the
area's premier event showcasing the top talent in MMA and Kickboxing in
the Midwest.
